The scientific analysis of the problem of development of pedagogical ideas
and educational activities of Ukrainian writers of Western Ukraine (the end 18th – 30s of the
20th century) is not only relevant, but also a productive direction of modern historical and
pedagogical research and creative searches of educational practitioners.
The modern educational and pedagogical space of Ukraine is actively searching for and
testing effective means of improving the education and upbringing of children and youngsters
in order to develop optimal models of self-realisation. Targeted activities in this area of
education also help to meet the creative needs and demands of teachers and to study,
systematise and promote best teaching practice.
In order for students – future teachers – to acquire knowledge about the trends in the
development of pedagogical ideas and educational activities of Ukrainian writers of Western
Ukraine in the end of the 18th – 30s of the 20th century, it is worth highlighting the main tasks
– an objective analysis of the retrospective experience of the trends in the development of
pedagogical ideas and educational activities of Ukrainian writers of Western Ukraine of the
studied period, coverage of the practice of implementing this process in the educational
system, in extracurricular activities, and in the system of public education. The pedagogical
reality dictates a change in views on the content and features of education and the
competences that a perspective teacher should master, taking into account the tasks of the
school in terms of understanding the content characteristics of teaching, upbringing and
development of students, as well as systematisation of pedagogical ideas and generalisation
of the experience of educational activities of Ukrainian writers of Western Ukraine n the end
of the 18th – 30s of the 20th century, in order to highlight the educational potential of their
creative heritage in the context of reforming the Ukrainian education system.
