A systematic analysis of modern pedagogical theory and educational practice in the field of out-of-school education is carried out, the main problems and trends in the processes of its reform are identified and characterised, and the directions of quality improvement are outlined. The necessity of modernising the content of out-of-school education in order to make it practice-oriented, child-centred and competence-based and socially relevant is substantiated in order to form not only the intellect but also the moral and spiritual world of the student, to help in his/her self-actualisation and self-realisation.
It is proved that the effective solution of these urgent tasks depends on solving the following problems: designing a practice-oriented creative educational environment of out-of-school educational institutions, expanding interdisciplinary and professional cooperation between teachers (specialists), heads of these institutions, the community and society as a whole; providing systematic and predictive processes of education, upbringing, development and socialisation of children of all ages; ensuring a holistic approach to education processes that logically combines formal, non-formal and informal approaches; formation of a socially active, creative, responsible and purposeful personality; organization and implementation of high-quality communication between extracurricular education institutions, other educational institutions, children's parents and the community; application of face-to-face, distance and blended learning technologies in out-of-school education institutions; conducting systematic monitoring studies to address problems in out-of-school education and the effectiveness of its reform.
