The article is devoted to the theoretical and methodological analysis of trends in the development of physics textbooks in Ukraine in the context of modern educational reforms. The relevance of the study is determined by the implementation of the Concept of the New Ukrainian School, the updating of state education standards, and the transition to a competence-oriented model of learning. In this work, the textbook is considered a holistic pedagogical phenomenon that combines informational, didactic, cultural, and educational functions. Based on the analysis of works by leading Ukrainian researchers (S. Honcharenko, O. Liashenko, M. Holovko, N. Sosnytska, and others), the evolution of the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the physics textbook and their role in shaping students’ scientific worldview and developing their key competencies has been determined. The appropriateness of applying the learner-centered, activity-based, competency-oriented, integrative, and differentiated approaches in the process of creating a modern textbook has been substantiated. It is proposed to consider the process of textbook creation through the prism of three interrelated stages – accommodation, organization, and transmission of educational content. The importance of a modular structure is identified as a factor in optimizing the content of physics education and strengthening interdisciplinary connections. The importance of harmonizing the invariant functions of a physics textbook (informational, transformational, motivational) with its variable ones (research, self-educational, competency-based) is emphasized. It is concluded that modern textbook development in the field of physics education is not only a didactic but also a cultural-value activity aimed at forming a holistic physical worldview and developing students' cognitive independence in accordance with the requirements of the New Ukrainian School.
