Abstract

This article provides a systematic analysis of the level-based and sectoral structuring of professional training for future specialists in pedagogical schools and colleges of Ukraine during the 1990s and the beginning of the 21st century. A comprehensive review of documentary materials was conducted, including lists of fields of study for higher education by professional orientation and specialties of different qualification levels (1994, 1997, 1998, 2005, 2007, 2015), the Laws of Ukraine «On Higher Education» (2014), «On Education» (2017), «On Professional Pre-Higher Education» (2019), concepts for the development of teacher education in Ukraine (2014, 2018), and others. Based on these materials, a reconstruction of the process of modernizing the old Soviet system into a new national state system of multi-level education and its adaptation to international standards of education classification was performed.

The article shows how, within the defined legal and regulatory framework, specializations were introduced in pedagogical schools and colleges, granting graduates additional qualifications. Most institutions offered training in two main specialties – «Preschool Education» and «Primary Education». The second group in terms of popularity included specialties such as «Physical Education», «Music Education», and «Technology».

Considering labor market demands, social challenges, and future employment prospects, pedagogical schools and colleges offered a wide range of specializations and additional qualifications, which were viewed as tools for strengthening their image and attractiveness.

The article characterizes the multi-sectoral nature of the level-based and sectoral structure of professional training for future specialists in humanitarian and humanitarian-pedagogical colleges, integrating educational and pedagogical disciplines with other fields of society and areas of scientific knowledge.
