The article examines the role of the course ‘‘Theory and Methods of Education“ in the professional training of future secondary school teachers.
The aims and objectives of the course are defined. The content of the lectures and practical sessions for this course is described, and their potential role in the professional training of future teachers in general secondary education is discussed.
It has been established that interactive teaching technologies (“Brainstorming“, the “Press“method, “Clustering“, “Opinion Poster“, etc.), the analysis and modelling of pedagogical situations, role-playing games, multimedia technologies and others are widely used during lectures and practical sessions.
It is emphasised that independent study by students is a key component of mastering the subject, and specific tasks of a creative nature are described. The following types of independent study are particularly valuable: taking online courses, participating in webinars, developing projects, writing essays, and preparing for panel discussions. The importance of informal courses in the professional training of future teachers was emphasised.
It has been demonstrated that studying this course contributes to the training of highly qualified future teachers of mathematics and computer science, biology and human health, who will possess a sufficient range of professional knowledge, skills and practical experience in organising educational work with children.
